The Root Chakra is the first Chakra, and lives at the base of the spine, between the perineum and the anus. Its Sanskrit name is Muladahara ,” Root Support”.
All Chakras have colors, the Root is red.
It is the foundation of the Chakra system, and also our physical foundation: the feet, legs, are profoundly affected with this Chakra, for they root us to the Earth itself. Think of it as ” I AM” here on Earth.
The aspects of this Chakra relate to the family(as in having family roots), physical survival, ie. having enough food, money, shelter, security, stability.
It starts when when we are 0-12 months old, where we are dependant on our parents ( our mother especially) for nourishment, support, grounding, and acceptance, as we are initiated into our family as our local tribe, and the greater tribe of humanity.
This is the Chakra where we learn to trust our bodies, trust others for support, learn healthy boundaries, feel personally safe, feel a sense of acceptance and belonging, feel nourished and taken care of .
This Chakra sets the stage for the upcoming Chakras . If it is in balance, then we have a solid ground or base from which to grow and prosper. If it is out of balance, then the foundation is shaky, creating instability with upcoming Chakras and future life events, such as family dysfunction, foot/leg problems, financial instability, housing issues, and more.
