Pain can be physical, psychological, spiritual or a package deal of all these components. It can be triggered by disease, accidents, falls, trauma, hereditary factors, surgery, viruses, environmental toxins, poor diet, lack of exercise, chronic insomnia, substance abuse, medication side effects, abuse, existential crisis, low self esteem, and lack of purpose or meaning in one’s life.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) can be used to shift this pain, via the Craniosacral system and the Central Nervous System (CNS). These systems are connected to each other as they live in the same place, ( the brain and spinal cord), and work together to keep the other systems of the body functioning smoothly.
The Craniosacral system comprises the tissue membranes, cranial bones, spinal vertebrae, and cerebrospinal fluid that bathes, surrounds and protects the brain, spinal cord, and sacrum.
The CNS, lives in the brain and spinal cord and comprises cranial nerves, sensory and motor nerves, and does its job of being the “Boss” of the body’s functions, such as digestion, respiration, circulation and so on..
If there’s a restriction anywhere along the spine, or a membraneous restriction within the brain itself, the cerebrospinal fluid gets stuck, and can’t move freely up and down the spine, and within the brain’s tissues.
Back up pressure due to impaired fluid movement from blockages along the spine creates pain, discomfort or reduced range of motion, and also impairs the other systems of the body, due to the relationships of the spinal nerves ( motor, sensory or both) to both the Craniosacral and CNS.
Having constipation for example, might correspond to a spinal restriction along L1-L4 ( lumbar region of spine).
Craniosacral Therapy is used to restore the normal flow of the cerebrospinal fluid by eliminating the blockages along its pathway by a gentle touch that sends messages to the brain to relax and receive the easing of restrictions, thus shifting pain.
