The Benefits of Lymph Drainage Therapy for Surgery

Posted in: Lymph Drainage, Ula's Blog | November 24, 2014

surgical instrumentsThe benefits of Lymph Drainage Therapy for pre- and post- surgical procedures are myriad and very helpful in preparing the body for a speedy recovery.

It’s advised to get one to three sessions pre-surgery in order for the body to eliminate toxins and to boost the immune system, and stimulate the nervous system.

It’s important to work on the lymphatic system before it before it’s inhibited, and possibly in spasm by the trauma of surgery,  medications and long term immobilization.

Surgeons also have an easier time making incisions through clean, well drained tissues, and this also minimizes scarring, especially in cosmetic surgery..

Here are  the BENEFITS of Lymph Drainage Therapy ( LDT) for pre-surgery:

 1. Prepares clean, drained tissues for surgery

2. Reduces swelling.

 3. Detoxifies the tissues.

  4. Stimulates the immune system, helping the body prepare  to avoid possible infection.

  5. Induces a deep state of relaxation for the nervous system.

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy ( LDT) has post-surgical benefits as well.

As early as 24 hours after the surgical procedure, as long as there is no contradiction of infection and there’s physican permission, LDT can be used to reduce edema ( swelling), reduce pain and spasms, reduce distortion of features in facial surgery, increase local circulation so that the lymphatic vessels can heal more quickly and the detoxification of  tissues helps minimize scarring..

Here are the BENEFITS of Lymph Drainage Therapy for Post-Surgical Recovery:

1. Alleviates post-surgical edema ( swelling)

2. Reduces spasms and pain.

3. Detoxification helps reduce the effects of medications, and immobilzation from recovery.

4. Stimulates fluid circulation, increases urination.

5. Boosts immune system and helps prevent post-surgical infections.

6. Improves skin regeneration and wound healing.

7. Minimizes the effects of scar tissue by preventing adhesions, keloids, and fibrotic tissue.
